Nature in its purest form
Serra da Estrela, a landscape area integrated into the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, with its 1993 meters and very distinctive characteristics, is magnetic – made up of dense woodlands, whimsical rock formations, with vast mirrors of water from its 25 lagoons and intersected by great rivers that originate there, such as the Alva, the Mondego, and the Zêzere.
The nobility of the landscapes of Serra da Estrela, which complements the tranquility of the lagoons and the genuinely pure air, allows for a variety of sports to be practiced in both winter and summer, and the mountain gastronomy along with its handicrafts make this region an excellent tourist destination, increasingly sought after.
To think of Serra da Estrela is to think of snow, winter sports, cold days spent skiing, and nights by the fireplace. However, the geographical characteristics of this region go further. Other activities such as hiking trails, mountain bike tracks, climbing, and paragliding are playing an increasingly important role due to the ease with which they can be undertaken at any time of the year. Serra da Estrela is a true adventure when exploring its glacial valleys, lagoons, waterfalls, and breathtaking landscapes – from Covão dos Conchos to Lagoa Comprida, Poço da Broca, the Zêzere Glacial Valley, or the Varanda dos Pastores from where you can enjoy the grandeur of the Alforfa Glacial Valley and many other sites.
As Aquilino Ribeiro wrote, “Serra da Estrela is a personality.”
